Dumbbell Overhead Side Lunge

The side lunge with one dumbbell held overhead in both hands; the arms stay locked up while the hips sit into the bent leg, which makes the trunk hold the line.

How to do it

Setup

Feet together, one dumbbell held overhead in both hands, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Step out to the side and lower the hips over that foot.
  2. Keep the bell overhead and the chest facing forward.
  3. Push back to the start and switch sides.

Common mistakes

Bell drifting forward as the hips sit back: keep the arms by the ears. Leaning the torso over the bent knee: keep it tall under the bell. Heel of the straight leg lifting: keep both feet flat.

Breathing

Inhale into the lunge, exhale pushing back.
