Weighted Overhead Crunch (On Stability Ball)

The stability ball crunch holding a weight overhead in straight arms; the stretch over the ball and the weight on the long lever both add to the work.

How to do it

Setup

Lower back on the ball, feet wide, a plate or dumbbell held overhead in straight arms.

Steps

  1. Let the arms and torso extend back over the ball.
  2. Curl up, the weight traveling with the head and the arms by the ears.
  3. Lower back into the stretch under control.

Common mistakes

Weight pulling you off the back of the ball: lighter load, feet wider. Arms bending to swing the weight up: keep them straight by the ears. Sitting up tall: the curl ends before the waist leaves the ball.

Breathing

Exhale on the crunch, inhale on the stretch.
