Weighted Counterbalanced Skater Squat

The skater squat holding a weight plate out at arm's length; the plate counterbalances the hips sitting back, so the torso can stay taller.

How to do it

Setup

Standing on one leg, the other knee bent behind, a plate held in both hands at chest height, arms straight.

Steps

  1. Push the plate forward as the standing knee bends.
  2. Sink until the back knee hovers near the floor.
  3. Stand up through the whole foot, the arms staying straight.

Common mistakes

Plate sinking toward the body at the bottom: keep it out front; that is where it balances you. Back knee thumping the floor: hover and go. Shrugging the plate up with the shoulders: arms long, shoulders down.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale up.
