Trap Bar Deadlift from Deficit

The trap bar deadlift standing on a low platform inside the bar; the lower start lengthens the break off the floor.

How to do it

Setup

On a low platform inside the hex bar, handles gripped, hips lower than in the floor pull, back flat.

Steps

  1. Drive the platform away, the handles rising in line with the hips.
  2. Lock out tall without leaning back.
  3. Hinge the bar back down until the plates touch the floor.

Common mistakes

Hips shooting up first from the deeper start: chest and hips rise together. Rounding to reach the handles: the flat back sets how deep the platform can be. Standing at the platform's edge: stand centered, feet fully on it.

Breathing

Big breath at the bottom, exhale after lockout.
