Strongman Atlas Stones

A round stone lifted from the floor between the feet, rolled up onto the lap, hugged to the chest and loaded onto a chest-high platform; a strongman lift for the back and hips.

How to do it

Setup

Stone on the floor between the feet, platform in front at chest height, feet wide, squatting to wrap both arms around the stone.

Steps

  1. Lift the stone off the floor and roll it up onto the lap.
  2. Re-grip high, pull it to the chest and drive the hips through to stand.
  3. Push it onto the platform, then step back and reset.

Common mistakes

Taking a stone too heavy for a clean lap: start light; the lap is the skill. Letting the stone drift away from the body: keep it hugged tight. Standing under the platform when a stone rolls off: step back and let it fall clear.

Breathing

Big breath at the floor, exhale once it is on the platform.
