Standing Toe Extensor Stretch

Standing with one foot pointed back and the tops of its toes on the floor, the weight eases onto that leg to stretch the top of the foot and the front of the shin; held for time.

How to do it

Setup

Standing, one hand on a wall for balance, one foot behind with the tops of the toes on the floor, a folded towel under them if needed.

Steps

  1. Keep the tops of the toes pressed to the floor.
  2. Lean onto that leg and press the heel down until the top of the foot stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch feet.

Common mistakes

Dropping the full bodyweight onto the toes at once: add weight gradually. Heel rolling out to the side: keep it in line behind the toes. Pushing through a cramp or sharp pain in the foot: ease off and loosen the foot.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
