Standing Chest Stretch (with Training Wall Bars)

One straight arm grips a wall-bar rung at shoulder height while the chest turns away from it; each side in turn.

How to do it

Setup

Side-on to the wall bars, near arm straight out at shoulder height, hand gripping a rung, free hand on the hip.

Steps

  1. Keep the arm straight and the grip on the rung firm.
  2. Step the feet round a little and turn the chest away until it stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch arms.

Common mistakes

Choosing a rung above shoulder height: the pull shifts to the front of the shoulder; take the one level with it. Elbow bending: a straight arm is what stretches the chest here. Shoulder hitching up toward the ear: set it down before turning.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
