Standing Bent-Knee Calf Raise with a Chair Support

The bodyweight calf raise with the knees softly bent and the hands on a chair; bent knees shift the rise onto the soleus.

How to do it

Setup

Facing a chair, hands on its back, feet hip-width, knees bent a little.

Steps

  1. Sit into the small bend, then lift the heels.
  2. Hold the top, knees still bent.
  3. Set the heels down softly.

Common mistakes

Straightening the legs as the heels rise: the bend is the point; hold it. Pulling on the chair: the hands only steady. Sinking deeper each rep: keep the same small bend.

Breathing

Exhale rising, inhale lowering.
