Squat Hold Calf Raise

A held squat with the heels rising and falling; bent knees give the calf work to the soleus, the thighs hold the depth.

How to do it

Setup

Squat to about thigh-parallel, feet hip-width, arms forward at shoulder height.

Steps

  1. Hold the depth and lift both heels.
  2. Lower and lift them at an even pace; time it.
  3. Stand up only when the time is up.

Common mistakes

Hips rising with each heel lift: the depth stays fixed. Knees caving as the heels come up: keep them over the toes. Tipping onto the toes: weight mid-foot, chest up.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
