Stair Up

Facing a flight of stairs, take one walking stride up onto the first step and back down, over and over; the everyday stair step as a drill.

How to do it

Setup

Standing a short step in front of a flight of stairs, feet hip-width, arms relaxed.

Steps

  1. Step one foot onto the first stair and rise onto it, the arms swinging as in walking.
  2. Step back down to the floor with the same foot first.
  3. Repeat, leading with the other foot in turn.

Common mistakes

Pushing off with the back foot: the front leg lifts you. Only the toes on the stair: set the whole foot down. Looking down at every step: eyes ahead, posture tall.

Breathing

Steady with the rhythm.
