Smith Machine Incline Tricep Extension

The triceps extension on an incline bench set under the Smith bar; the bar runs straight up and down, so the bench must put its path just in front of the forehead.

How to do it

Setup

Incline bench under the Smith bar, a close overhand grip, the safety stops set so the bar cannot reach the face.

Steps

  1. Bend the elbows to lower the bar to just in front of the forehead.
  2. Keep the elbows pointing up and narrow.
  3. Straighten the arms to press the bar back up the rails.

Common mistakes

Bench placed so the bar's line crosses the face: move it before the first rep. Elbows flaring as the bar lowers: keep them narrow. Unhooking the bar with no stops set: set them first, every time.

Breathing

Inhale lowering, exhale extending.
