Sitting Rotational Hip Stretch

One leg bent in front, the other folded back, lean the body toward the back leg; the hips turn and the deep hip muscles stretch.

How to do it

Setup

On the floor, one leg bent in front, the other folded back beside the hip.

Steps

  1. Sit tall, both sit bones on the floor as far as possible.
  2. Lean the whole body toward the back leg, hands on the floor.
  3. Hold and breathe, then swap the legs.

Common mistakes

Twisting pain in the back knee: bring that foot in closer or skip the stretch. Collapsing the back to lean further: keep it long. Forcing the lean: go only as far as the hips allow.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
