Single-Arm Lat Pulldown

One handle at a time, which lets the shoulder blade travel further than a bar allows.

Single-Arm Lat Pulldown, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

One handle overhead, kneel or sit side-on, arm long.

Steps

  1. Let the blade rise for the full stretch.
  2. Pull the handle to the shoulder, blade sweeping down.
  3. Return long, blade travelling up again.

Common mistakes

Skipping the blade's travel: the single arm exists FOR that extra range. Torso bending sideways: tall through the pull. Racing: one arm means half the weight and double the focus.

Breathing

Exhale on the pull, inhale on the stretch.
