Side Plank with Raised Leg

The side plank held with the top leg lifted and kept up; the outer hip works with the obliques for the whole hold.

How to do it

Setup

On one forearm or hand under the shoulder, feet stacked, hips lifted into one line.

Steps

  1. Raise the top leg to about hip height.
  2. Hold it there, hips high and stacked.
  3. Lower the leg onto the other and switch sides.

Common mistakes

Hips dropping as the leg rises: lift the waist first, then the leg. Top leg drifting forward: keep it in line with the trunk. Top hip rolling back: hips stacked.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
