Resistance Band Seated Shoulder Press

The overhead press seated on a chair with a flat band trapped under the seat; the band pulls hardest as the arms straighten.

How to do it

Setup

Seated tall on a chair, a flat band under the seat, its ends at the shoulders, palms forward.

Steps

  1. Press both hands up until the arms are straight.
  2. Keep the back off the backrest and the ribs down.
  3. Lower the hands to the shoulders with the band still taut.

Common mistakes

Band slipping out from under the seat: sit on it squarely before the first rep. Leaning back into the chair: sit tall, the press is the shoulders' work. Letting the band snap the hands down: lower slowly.

Breathing

Exhale pressing, inhale returning.
