Resistance Band Push-Up

The push-up against a flat looped band stretched across the upper back and pinned under both hands; the band adds the most load at lockout.

How to do it

Setup

The loop across the upper back, each end pinned under a hand below the shoulders, body in a high plank.

Steps

  1. Lower the chest to just above the floor.
  2. Press up against the band all the way to lockout.
  3. Lower slowly, the band still pulling.

Common mistakes

Loop slipping off the hands: pin its ends flat under the palms. Band riding up to the neck: it runs across the shoulder blades. Letting the band shorten the lockout: straighten the arms fully every rep.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale on the press.
