Raise Single Arm Push-Up

A push-up with a reach at the top: one arm lifts forward past the head in line with the body while the other holds the plank.

How to do it

Setup

High plank, hands under the shoulders, feet wider than hip-width.

Steps

  1. Do a push-up, chest to just above the floor.
  2. At the top, reach one arm forward past the head, thumb up.
  3. Put it back down and reach with the other arm after the next rep.

Common mistakes

Hips rotating as the arm lifts: brace and widen the feet. Reaching out to the side: the arm goes straight ahead, in line with the body. Short push-ups to reach sooner: full depth first, then the reach.

Breathing

Inhale lowering, exhale pressing.
