Pretzel Stretch
Seated with one leg long and the other foot crossed over it, the trunk turns toward the bent knee, a hand behind on the floor and the gaze over the shoulder.
How to do it
Setup
Seated tall, one leg straight, the other knee bent with its foot flat outside the straight knee.
Steps
- Place the hand of the bent-knee side on the floor behind the hips.
- Hook the other arm round the bent knee and turn the chest toward it, looking behind.
- Hold and breathe, then unwind and switch sides.
Common mistakes
Slumping onto the back hand: sit tall and turn from the waist up. Straight leg rolling out: keep its toes pointing up. Cranking the neck round first: the chest leads, the head follows.
Breathing
Slow and even through the hold.
