Standing Lower Trunk Lateral Flexor Stretch

Side-on to a wall with one hand on it and the legs crossed, push the hips toward the wall so the far side of the waist lengthens; the free hand on the hip.

How to do it

Setup

Side-on to a wall, the near arm straight with the palm on it at shoulder height, legs crossed at the ankles, free hand on the hip.

Steps

  1. Push the hips sideways toward the wall.
  2. Let the body curve away from the wall until the side of the waist stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then turn around and switch sides.

Common mistakes

Twisting the chest toward the wall: keep it facing forward. Leaning the whole body onto the arm: the arm steadies; the hips move. Arching the lower back: keep the ribs down and the tail tucked.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
