Power Push Aways

From the bottom of a kneeling push-up, the body pushes back over the heels into a child's pose with the arms long, then pulls forward to the hands again.

How to do it

Setup

On the knees, hands flat under the shoulders, elbows bent and the chest low near the floor.

Steps

  1. Push the body back until the hips sit over the heels and the arms are long.
  2. Pull forward over the hands into the low position again.
  3. Keep the hands planted in one spot for the whole set.

Common mistakes

Pressing up to straight arms between reps: the body glides back and forward at the low line. Hands sliding on the floor: plant them and move the body. Hips lifting on the way forward: lead with the chest and keep it low.

Breathing

Exhale pushing back, inhale coming forward.
