Plank to Push-Up

From the forearm plank, rise onto one hand at a time to the top of a push-up and back down; the hips must not sway.

Plank to Push-Up, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Forearm plank, body one line.

Steps

  1. Press up onto one hand, then the other, to a high plank.
  2. Lower back to the forearms one arm at a time.
  3. Alternate the leading arm each rep.

Common mistakes

Hips swinging side to side: wider feet, slower steps. Always the same lead arm: alternate or one side does all the work. Sagging mid-transition: the plank never blinks.

Breathing

Exhale rising, inhale lowering.
