Inchworm

From standing, fold and walk the hands out to a plank, then walk the feet up to the hands with the legs as straight as they go; stand and repeat.

Inchworm, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Stand tall, feet hip-width, legs as straight as they go.

Steps

  1. Fold at the hips and put the hands on the floor.
  2. Walk the hands out to a high plank.
  3. Walk the feet up toward the hands, legs straight.
  4. Stand tall and repeat.

Common mistakes

Bending the knees to reach the floor: bend only as much as the hamstrings demand. Hips sagging in the plank: brace before the last hand-step. Tiny hand-steps: long reaches, the trunk holding the line.

Breathing

Exhale walking the hands out, inhale walking the feet in.
