Overhead Dumbbell Lunge

Lunge holding a dumbbell locked out overhead; the shoulder and the trunk pay as much as the legs.

Overhead Dumbbell Lunge, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

One dumbbell locked out overhead, arm vertical; stand tall.

Steps

  1. Lunge forward keeping the bell stacked over the shoulder.
  2. Back knee just above the floor.
  3. Drive up and through to the next lunge.

Common mistakes

Arm drifting forward: the bell stays over the SHOULDER, ribs down. Watching the floor: eyes forward; the bell follows the gaze. Heavy too soon: the shoulder and trunk gate this, not the legs.

Breathing

Inhale into the lunge, exhale driving up.
