Lateral Squat

From a wide stance without stepping, shift the weight over one leg and squat into it, then over to the other.

Lateral Squat, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Very wide stance, toes mostly forward, hands at the chest.

Steps

  1. Shift the weight over one leg and squat into it.
  2. The other leg stays straight, foot flat.
  3. Come back through the middle and squat over the other side.

Common mistakes

Feet stepping between reps: the stance is FIXED; only the weight shifts. Bouncing through the middle: pass through it under control. Heel of the straight leg rising: press it down.

Breathing

Inhale sitting in, exhale shifting up.
