Neck Side Stretch
Standing, one hand reaches over the top of the head to the far ear and draws the head down toward that arm's shoulder; the other hand rests on the hip.
How to do it
Setup
Standing tall, feet hip-width, hands on the hips, shoulders relaxed.
Steps
- Reach one hand over the head and rest the palm above the far ear.
- Draw the head gently toward that arm's shoulder, nose forward.
- Hold and breathe, then return the hand to the hip and switch sides.
Common mistakes
Hauling on the head with the arm: let the hand's weight do the pulling. Far shoulder rising with the stretch: keep that hand on the hip and the shoulder down. Leaning the whole trunk to the side: the chest stays upright; only the neck bends.
Breathing
Slow and even through the hold.
