Machine Preacher Curl (Plate-Loaded)
The preacher curl on a plate-loaded lever: arms on the pad, angled handles, and plates on the lever instead of a weight stack.
How to do it
Setup
Seated, the backs of the upper arms flat on the pad, the angled handles gripped underhand.
Steps
- Curl the handles up toward the face, upper arms pressed into the pad.
- Squeeze the biceps where the lever tops out.
- Lower until the elbows are nearly straight, without letting the plates rest.
Common mistakes
Seat too low to reach the pad: the armpits sit on its top edge; adjust the seat before loading. Elbows lifting off the pad as the handles rise: keep the upper arms pressed down. Letting the lever drop onto its stop between reps: lower under control and turn before it touches.
Breathing
Exhale on the curl, inhale lowering.
