Machine Incline Hammer Chest Press

The incline machine press on handles held palms facing each other; the neutral grip keeps the elbows closer to the body than a bar grip does.

How to do it

Setup

Seated on the reclined pad, handles at the upper-chest line in a neutral grip, feet planted.

Steps

  1. Press up until the arms are straight over the upper chest.
  2. Keep the palms facing each other and the elbows in.
  3. Lower slowly into the stretch at the upper chest.

Common mistakes

Elbows flaring despite the grip: the neutral handles are there to keep them in. Back lifting off the pad: stay pressed into it. Short returns: let the handles come back to the upper chest.

Breathing

Exhale pressing, inhale returning.
