Machine Belt Romanian Deadlift (Straight Bar)

The Romanian deadlift on a belt squat machine with a straight bar clipped to its lever, held overhand; the machine sets the path and you own the hinge.

How to do it

Setup

On the platform facing the machine, the straight bar held overhand at the thighs, feet hip-width, knees soft.

Steps

  1. Push the hips back, the bar tracking down the thighs.
  2. Pause where the hamstrings stretch, shoulders over the bar.
  3. Drive the hips through and stand tall.

Common mistakes

Standing where the lever pulls the bar forward: set the feet so it hangs straight under the shoulders. Rounding to chase depth: the stretch ends the rep. Letting the knees drift forward: the shins stay near vertical.

Breathing

Inhale as the hips go back, exhale driving up.
