Kettlebell Standing Behind Back Romanian Deadlift

The Romanian deadlift with one kettlebell held in both hands behind the hips; the bell rides the backs of the thighs as the torso tips forward.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, a kettlebell held behind the hips in both hands, arms long, knees soft.

Steps

  1. Tip the torso forward as the hips travel back.
  2. Let the bell slide down the backs of the thighs, back flat.
  3. Bring the hips forward until you stand tall.

Common mistakes

Shrugging the bell up the back: the arms hang long behind. Bending the knees to lower the bell: the hips go back and the knees stay soft. Rounding the upper back under the rear load: chest proud, blades set.

Breathing

Inhale hinging, exhale standing.
