Lying (Prone) Abdominal Stretch

Face down with the arms straight and the hands far in front, press the palms down to lift the chest while the hips stay on the floor; a low back bend that lengthens the belly.

How to do it

Setup

Face down, legs long, arms straight on the floor ahead of the head, palms down.

Steps

  1. Press the palms into the floor and lift the chest, arms straight.
  2. Keep the hips and the legs pressed into the floor.
  3. Hold and breathe, then lower the chest slowly.

Common mistakes

Hips lifting off the floor: rise only as high as the hips stay down. Head thrown back: look ahead with the neck long. Shoulders creeping to the ears: draw them down away from the ears.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
