Standing Lean Back Stomach Stretch

Standing with the hands on the buttocks, lean back slowly with the eyes to the ceiling; the front of the trunk lengthens, the legs stay firm.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet shoulder-width, hands on the buttocks, fingers pointing down.

Steps

  1. Lift the chest and lean back slowly, eyes following the ceiling.
  2. Keep the legs firm and let the hands steady the lower back.
  3. Hold and breathe, then come up slowly, chest first.

Common mistakes

Folding at the lower back: lift the chest first and spread the bend. Head dropped back: gaze up, neck long. Leaning past comfort: stop at a stretch across the stomach, never a pinch in the back.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
