Lunging Straight-Leg Calf Stretch

A free-standing lunge with the back leg straight and its heel pressed down, the hands on the front thigh; the back calf stretches.

How to do it

Setup

A long split stance, front knee bent, back leg straight, feet pointing forward.

Steps

  1. Rest the hands on the front thigh and keep the trunk upright.
  2. Sink into the front knee until the back calf stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Back heel lifting off the floor: shorten the stance. Leaning the chest far forward: stay stacked over the hips. Front knee drifting inward: it tracks over the middle toes.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
