Calf Stretch with Hands Against Wall

Hands on a wall, one leg steps back straight with the heel down and the body leans in until the calf stretches; held for time.

How to do it

Setup

Facing a wall, hands on it, one foot a long step behind, toes forward.

Steps

  1. Keep the back knee straight and its heel pressed down.
  2. Bend the front knee and lean in until the back calf stretches.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Back heel lifting: shorten the step until it stays down. Back foot turned out: point the toes straight at the wall. Bending the back knee: the stretch slides off the calf's surface muscle; keep it straight.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
