Calf Stretch with Rope

Lying on your back, a rope looped around the ball of one foot draws the toes toward you, first with the leg straight, then with the knee bent up; the calf stretches with no body weight on it.

How to do it

Setup

Lying on your back, legs straight, a rope with handles looped around the ball of one foot, a handle in each hand.

Steps

  1. Pull the handles to draw the toes back toward you, the knee straight.
  2. Bend that knee up toward the chest and keep pulling the toes back.
  3. Hold and breathe, then switch legs.

Common mistakes

Rope around the arch or the toes: loop it around the ball of the foot. Lifting the head and shoulders to pull: the arms pull, the back stays down. Yanking the rope: pull slowly and hold still.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
