Legs-Up-the-Wall

Lie on your back with the hips close to a wall and the legs resting straight up it; the backs of the legs lengthen while everything else rests.

How to do it

Setup

Sit sideways against a wall, then lie back and swing the legs up it so the hips end close to it.

Steps

  1. Rest the legs straight up the wall with the knees soft.
  2. Let the arms fall out to the sides.
  3. Stay still and let the legs unload.
  4. Roll to one side to come out rather than sitting straight up.

Common mistakes

Locking the knees hard: soft knees hold longer. Forcing the hips right against the wall on stiff hamstrings; slide back a hand's width. Getting up quickly at the end.

Breathing

Long, quiet breaths – nothing here needs effort.
