Dumbbell RDL Stretch Isometric

The bottom of a dumbbell Romanian deadlift, held: back flat and bells hanging near the shins, the hamstrings stretch under a light load.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, a light dumbbell in each hand in front of the thighs, feet hip-width, knees soft.

Steps

  1. Push the hips back and slide the bells down the thighs, back flat.
  2. Stop where the hamstrings pull and the back would start to round, and hold.
  3. Drive the hips forward to stand, then rest before the next hold.

Common mistakes

Rounding the back to reach lower: the hold ends where the flat back ends. Locking the knees hard: keep a slight bend. Bells heavy enough to pull you down: go light, since the stretch is the point and not the load.

Breathing

Slow and even through the hold.
