Deep Lunge to Hamstring Stretch

Rock from a deep lunge back over a straightened front leg and forward again; the hamstrings and the hip flexors open in turn.

How to do it

Setup

Deep lunge, back knee down on a mat, hands on the floor beside the front foot.

Steps

  1. Shift the hips back and straighten the front leg, toes up.
  2. Pause where the back of that thigh stretches, back long.
  3. Slide forward into the lunge until the back hip opens.
  4. Finish the set, then switch sides.

Common mistakes

Rounding over the leg to reach lower: hinge from the hips, chest long. Bouncing between the ends: glide slowly and pause at each. Forcing the front knee straight: stop at the first clear stretch.

Breathing

Exhale into the fold, inhale back into the lunge.
