Leg to Side
On the back, hold one straight leg up by the big toe, then lower it out to the side while the other leg stays long; the inner thigh and the back of the leg lengthen.
How to do it
Setup
On the back, both legs long, one leg raised straight up, the same-side hand holding its big toe or a strap.
Steps
- Keep the raised leg straight and lower it out to the side.
- Press the opposite hip down so the pelvis stays flat.
- Hold and breathe, then lift the leg back up and switch sides.
Common mistakes
Opposite hip lifting as the leg goes out: keep both hips down and lower the leg less far. Bending the lifted knee to reach the floor: the leg stays straight; rest the thigh on a block. Pulling the leg down with the arm: let its own weight take it.
Breathing
Slow and even through the hold.
