Kettlebell Lunge with Twist

The lunge that turns the torso toward the front leg at the bottom, a kettlebell held in both hands in front of the chest; the bell's weight makes the turn work the trunk.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, a kettlebell held in both hands in front of the chest.

Steps

  1. Step into a long lunge and settle at the bottom.
  2. Turn the chest and the bell toward the front leg.
  3. Turn back to the middle, then drive up to standing; alternate sides.

Common mistakes

Twisting the knee with the torso: the front knee stays pointed straight ahead. Rotating from the lower back alone: turn the ribs and shoulders together. Bell dragging the torso down at the bottom: pick a lighter one and stay tall.

Breathing

Inhale into the lunge, exhale on the turn.
