Jumping Jack

Jump the feet apart while the arms sweep overhead, then back; a warm-up staple.

Jumping Jack, illustrated

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet together, arms at the sides.

Steps

  1. Jump the feet apart while the arms sweep overhead.
  2. Jump back together as the arms return.
  3. Keep a light springy rhythm.

Common mistakes

Half-raised arms: full sweep overhead. Heavy landings: stay on the balls of the feet. Knees caving on the out-jump: track the toes.

Breathing

Steady with the rhythm.
