High Knee Step-Up

A step-up onto a bench that finishes with the free knee driven up to hip height, the arms swinging in time.

How to do it

Setup

Facing a flat bench, the whole working foot on it, arms bent at the sides.

Steps

  1. Drive up through the foot on the bench.
  2. Bring the free knee up to hip height as the working leg straightens.
  3. Step back down with the same foot and repeat; switch legs after the set.

Common mistakes

Hopping off the floor foot: the bench leg lifts you. Rounding forward as the knee comes up: stand tall and bring the knee to you. Standing knee caving: track it over the toes.

Breathing

Exhale stepping up, inhale down.
