High Box Step-Up
The step-up onto a box high enough to put the working hip below the knee at the start; the deep start makes the glute work through a long range.
How to do it
Setup
Facing a high box, the whole working foot on top, hands clasped at the chest.
Steps
- Lean slightly forward and drive through the heel on the box.
- Stand fully upright on the box.
- Lower the free leg back to the floor slowly; finish the leg, then switch.
Common mistakes
Box too high to stand up from without a jump: lower it until the drive is clean. Jumping off the floor leg: the top leg does the lift. Dropping down off the box: lower yourself slowly.
Breathing
Exhale stepping up, inhale down.
