Barbell Weighted Deadlift

The deadlift with weight releasers on the bar ends: they overload the first lowering and unhook on touchdown, leaving the bar alone for the reps after.

How to do it

Setup

In a rack, the bar on pins at knee height with a releaser hooked on each end; deadlift grip, back flat.

Steps

  1. Stand the bar up off the pins to a full lockout.
  2. Lower slowly until both releasers touch down and unhook.
  3. Pull the remaining reps from the floor with the bar alone.

Common mistakes

Dropping fast into the touchdown: lower under control so both releasers land together. Bar tipping as one side unhooks first: keep it level all the way down. Rounding under the heavier lowering: lighter releasers, same flat back.

Breathing

Big breath and brace at the top, exhale after the lockout or between reps.
