Finger Flexion While Extending Thumb

A hand-control drill: the four fingers curl into the palm while the thumb straightens away from them, the hands resting on a table.

How to do it

Setup

Standing at a table or box, both hands flat on top, fingers together, thumbs relaxed.

Steps

  1. Curl the four fingers in toward the palm.
  2. At the same time, straighten the thumb out to the side.
  3. Open the hand flat again and repeat slowly.

Common mistakes

Thumb curling in with the fingers: it moves the opposite way. Lifting the whole hand off the surface: the heel of the hand stays down. Rushing the pattern: slow and exact beats fast.

Breathing

Easy and steady.
