External Press Shoulders Mobilization

Standing side-on to a rack upright with the straight arm against it, press the arm out into the post and hold, nothing moving; the side of the shoulder works.

How to do it

Setup

Standing side-on to a rack upright, feet hip-width, the outside of the straight arm against the post.

Steps

  1. Press the arm out into the post as if lifting it sideways.
  2. Hold the push without leaning the body away.
  3. Ease off slowly; turn around to work the other arm.

Common mistakes

Shrugging the shoulder up: keep it down; the push comes from the side of the shoulder. Leaning the body into the post: stand tall; only the arm presses. Letting go at once: ease off as slowly as you pressed.

Breathing

Steady throughout; never held.
