Dumbbell One-Arm Lateral Raise with Support

The one-arm lateral raise with the free hand resting on an incline bench; the support keeps the torso still, so the side delt lifts alone.

How to do it

Setup

Standing beside an incline bench, free hand on its top, one bell hanging at the other side.

Steps

  1. Raise the bell out to the side until the arm is level with the shoulder.
  2. Rest on the bench lightly; it steadies the torso.
  3. Lower under control, then change sides after the set.

Common mistakes

Leaning on the bench with the whole body: rest the hand lightly; the torso stays upright. Wrist climbing higher than the elbow at the top: lead with the elbow, knuckles down. Swinging the bell up from the thigh: start each rep from a dead stop.

Breathing

Exhale on the raise, inhale lowering.
