Elevated Push-Up

The push-up with each hand on a low block, so the chest sinks between them past the level of the hands for a deeper stretch.

How to do it

Setup

Two low sturdy blocks under the shoulders, a hand flat on each, body in a plank.

Steps

  1. Lower the chest between the blocks, below the hands.
  2. Pause for a beat in the stretch.
  3. Press back up to straight arms.

Common mistakes

Blocks shifting under the hands: use stable ones on a non-slip floor. Dropping into the stretch: lower under control, especially at the bottom. Going deeper than the shoulders allow: stop where it stays comfortable.

Breathing

Inhale down, exhale on the press.
