Dumbbell Sumo Pull-Through

A wide-stance squat-hinge with one dumbbell held in both hands, lowered down and back between the legs and brought to the front of the hips as you stand.

How to do it

Setup

Feet wide, toes turned out, one dumbbell hanging in both hands in front of the hips.

Steps

  1. Sit the hips down and back, letting the bell pass down between the legs.
  2. Keep the chest up and the knees pushed out over the toes.
  3. Stand by driving the hips forward, the bell rising to the hips.

Common mistakes

Swinging the bell with the arms: the arms hang, the hips lift it. Knees caving toward each other: push them out over the toes. Back rounding at the bottom: stop where the chest stays up.

Breathing

Inhale hinging, exhale standing.
