Dumbbell Stiff-Leg Deadlift on Bench

The stiff-leg deadlift with two dumbbells, standing on a bench so the bells can sink past the feet on either side of it.

How to do it

Setup

Standing on a flat bench, a dumbbell in each hand in front of the thighs, knees nearly straight.

Steps

  1. Push the hips back and lower the bells along the legs.
  2. Let them pass the bench top only while the back stays flat.
  3. Stand by squeezing the glutes and pushing the hips forward.

Common mistakes

Bells swinging away from the legs: keep them close all the way. Bending the knees to reach lower: the legs stay long; the range ends where the stretch does. Standing on a narrow, sliding bench: a stable surface only.

Breathing

Inhale hinging, exhale standing.
