Dumbbell Standing One-Arm Extension

The one-arm overhead dumbbell extension standing up; with no seat, the trunk has to stop the side lean.

How to do it

Setup

Standing tall, feet hip-width, one bell overhead on a straight arm, free hand on the hip.

Steps

  1. Bend the elbow until the bell sits behind the neck.
  2. Keep the ribs down and the hips square.
  3. Straighten the arm overhead, then do the other side.

Common mistakes

Leaning away from the working arm: stand tall, weight even on both feet. Lower back arching: squeeze the glutes, ribs down. Elbow drifting forward as you tire: keep it by the ear.

Breathing

Inhale lowering, exhale extending.
